My wife weighs 100 lbs can she shoot an AK-47?
What weapon can I train her on for home defence?
I prefer not to get a 0.223, because it would be best to have uniformity of ammunion/guns. Thank you. |
Re: My wife weighs 100 lbs can she shoot an AK-47?
I would say so... The question is, would she be willing to do so.
I read a book about boy soldiers in Africa. They had boys so young fighting that they couldn't hold the AK-47 and fire it. They would prop the firearm up on the ground and shoot it... |
Re: My wife weighs 100 lbs can she shoot an AK-47?
Are all rounds the same?
Are there less "hot" rounds? Thank you. |
Re: My wife weighs 100 lbs can she shoot an AK-47?
The weapon of choice the world over used by men, women and children. The AK-47 is the best all round weapon in my opinion. They are cheap and the ammo is cheap. I myself have several and currently I have two in the process of being customized. I also have several Norinco SKS's (same 7.62x39mm ammo). I also try to keep my sidearms and sidearm ammo uniform as well (in this case 9mm). I have a number of Glocks, CZs, and a couple dozen Hi Point C9 pistols (not to mention a couple cheap 9mm Hi Point carbines, one that I toss in the back of the truck). The idea of uniformity in weapon selection and ammo just seems reasonable and to be the simplest approach.

she can shoot no problem.. I dont think even hot reloads would give her any trouble. - Gas operated wepons are great for small frames.
Heck theres been child armies (sadly) in third world countries that have been shooting AK's for years. |

Re: My wife weighs 100 lbs can she shoot an AK-47?
Yes she can. This rifle was designed for smaller people. Big Americans have a problem with the AK because the stock is short, for smaller people.

Re: My wife weighs 100 lbs can she shoot an AK-47?
the only challenge will be the length of the trigger pull-- maybe. as noted its designed for shorties, compared to us big strappn 'merikan men. LOL

Red Jacket, Lancaster, or Vector -- nicely done kit-builds, second choice Chinese PolyTech "Legend"--very pricey if you can find one for sale Chinese MAK-90s are mostly well made, have heavier stamped receivers Romanian SAR-1 2001 or later Some folks like the Egyptian MAADI...I find them a little rough Romanian WASR 10 and later variants-- serviceable, last choice All parts kits are drying up and the cheaper builds are getting harder to find. |

Just for starters, find what suits you and then find a FFL transfer agent.

Re: My wife weighs 100 lbs can she shoot an AK-47?
Then get her some black pajamas, flip flops made out of rubber tires, and one of those green web gear chest ammo mag holders. that will make the VC outfit complete

Re: My wife weighs 100 lbs can she shoot an AK-47?
Don't really hear "AK" and "Home Defense" in the same sentence much.

Re: My wife weighs 100 lbs can she shoot an AK-47?
An AK-74 is a much "softer" shooting weapon. The 5.45x39 round may prove more effective for inside home defense as it has a tougher time with barrier penatraion, where as the 7.62x39 will zip right through wall studs and possibley have unintended consequences.
Shotguns are excellent for room to room. Rifles are good for everything else. |
Lets not forget the SAM-7...Arsenal Nevada!

This is a Stock photo of Arsenal SAM-7 Milled Receiver Black Polymer Furniture... This is a Discontinued model, but they still have something similar. Re: My wife weighs 100 lbs can she shoot an AK-47?
Those two young ladies are holding AK74's, not AK47's. OR they are holding AK47's that someone has put the muzzle brake FROM an AK74 on. That particular muzzle brake comes on most 74's. I'm considering them on my Romanian Draco. A muzzle brake does make a difference btw. I was out firing my Dracos. They were great, albiet they did have some muzzle rise and had to be 'brought back down' on to the target. I transitioned to my AMD 65's with muzzle brakes. ZERO muzzle rise. The recoil even FELT milder. The AMD 65's are about three or four inches longer (with the stock folded) and weigh within one pound of the Draco and I was firing the same ammo (Golden Tiger if anyone wants to know).
Your wife will definitely be able to fire the AK47 without a problem. But, don't take her to a range to do so. Find someone with property. Most ranges have a 'one round every ten second' type of rule. Definitley ruins the whole experience. I took my younger sister out to the range on their ranch. She shot the .357's. The 2 inch, the 4 inch and the 6 inch. Then she fired the CZ52 (two heavy). THEN she got her hands on my AMD 65. She fired a couple of rounds. Boom............Boom. I stopped her and said, "No, it should sound like this. Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom". She emptied the rest of the twenty round mag in about four seconds. Had the largest grin you've ever seen. Said if she knew firing a weapon was this fun, she would have started shooting years ago. She went through four more twenty round mags before we quit. She was starting to get tired. It was a little cold and a light mist. Unusual for West Texas, but she just went on and on to all her riding girlfriends about getting to fire an AK47. My sister is about 5"10' and weighs probably about 110, sopping wet with rocks in her pockets. Tall and thin. And keeping your rifles in the same caliber is a very smart idea. Ditto with hand guns. We have five calibers we shoot. 7.62x25, 7.62x39, 7.62x51, .357 and 12 gauge. That's it. The 7.62x51 is for my Rem 700 Hvy Barrel BDL. Reachs out and touches people well past 300 yards. Gonna have to find one of the younger men to use that one, as my eyes just aren't what they used to be. |
Re: My wife weighs 100 lbs can she shoot an AK-47?
Home defense? Get a pistol with a large magazine. When SHTF, I don't know if I would trust my wife's fine motor skills with a large rifle, but that's just me. My wife can shoot my Glocks really well, and I also have a revolver within reach just in case. I figure a revolver is good because I don't have to worry about it jamming up on her.

Re: My wife weighs 100 lbs can she shoot an AK-47?
My 5-year-old nephew is chomping at the bit to get his hands on my AK47. He knows he has to wait until he's "old enough," and I suspect "old enough" will come before he's 100 lbs. I'm now, btw, the "coolest aunt ever" by virtue of owning an AK. He is the "nephew most likely to get kicked out of public school before he finishes kindergarten." Last month the kids had to tell the class what they wanted to be when they grow up, then draw a picture of themselves as that. Nephew drew a picture of himself (or Mr. Potato Head...we're not really sure) with a rifle, and in big red letters over it SNIPER. Lol!

My girl is 105 and shoots my SKS. It was kind of funny though when she shot the 12ga and flew back about two feet.

My wife unit does not like the m-16, she likes the Hungarion AK-47.She has killed 9 deer with it so far so I just shut up.When I"m out in my blind and i hear that AK go off I know there is work to do.

Re: My wife weighs 100 lbs can she shoot an AK-47?
Sorry folks,
Due to experience head to head, I'll take an M-16 with the chrome plated chamber over a junky #ss AK-47 anyday. I've used both of them extensively. Decades ago. Obviously both go auto. At 200 meters you put your AK on auto. I'll step back and take you out easily at 300 meters with my 16. Either auto or one shot. If it's up close it's fixed bayonets or hand to hand. We all talk survival on here. Try me! My point is? The USSR and the current version of Russia have produced these weapons cheaply. They have fewer moving parts than a 16. The Russians started selling this junk off to the poor nations in the late '50's. |
My wife weighs 100 lbs can she shoot an AK-47? Yes, if it is cute.
